What should I expect when I start using whiz.coach?

whiz.coach learns how you learn. From the moment you answer your first question, the system is building a picture of your strengths and gaps. Here's what to expect:

  1. Just start practicing — Pick a subject and answer questions any way you like (browse, Quick Play, games, flashcards). There's nothing to configure upfront.
  2. Your profile builds automatically — After a few sessions, you'll start seeing per-topic Mastery Scores, Practice Points, trends, and focus-area indicators appear in My Learning.
  3. You'll be prompted at the right moment — After 15+ questions in a subject, a short assessment is offered (not forced). This sets your personalized difficulty level.
  4. AI Coach adapts from there — Once your level is set, AI Coach generates quizzes targeting your focus areas at the right difficulty. It adjusts as you improve.
  5. Notifications keep you on track — You'll receive alerts about focus areas detected, reminders for topics you haven't practiced recently, and a weekly progress summary. Limited to 3 per day so they stay helpful, not noisy.

You don't need to set up everything at once. The system meets you where you are and introduces features as they become relevant.

Practice & Questions

How can I practice questions?

Go to the Practice page, pick syllabus and subject from dropdowns, optionally filter by question type/topic, then click 'Next'. Practice is unlimited for every learner.

How do I see the answer to a question?

Click the 'Ans' button below the question to view the correct answer and explanation. Once revealed, the answer stays visible — you can't re-hide it and then pick the right option for points. If you come back to the same question within an hour, it stays locked with the answer shown so you can review without scoring. After an hour has passed since you first peeked, the question opens up again so you can attempt it fresh.

How can I generate more questions?

Question generation is managed by platform administrators — request new questions on a topic by contacting support. Practice questions on existing topics are unlimited for all users.

What is Quick Play?

Tap the game controller FAB on the Questions page, choose difficulty and question count (5-20), then 'Start Game'. Plays as a solo game. If the syllabus has a topic hierarchy, you can also select specific topics to focus on (recommended topics are pre-selected with a star icon).

Does Quick Play contribute to my learning profile?

Yes. Every question answered in Quick Play (and all other modes — multiplayer, AI Coach quizzes) is analyzed by the practice profiler to build your per-topic scores, detect gaps, and recommend appropriate difficulty.

What happens automatically vs what do I need to do myself?

Automatic (no action needed):

  • Practice profile tracking — every answer updates your per-topic Practice Points and (for quiz answers) Mastery Score
  • Focus area detection — flagged when Mastery accuracy drops below 50% with at least 10 Mastery-quiz attempts
  • Trend tracking — the system knows if you're improving, stable, or declining on each topic
  • Auto-difficulty adjustment — AI Coach promotes/demotes your level based on rolling performance
  • Mastery track creation — My Learning subject cards appear automatically after your first practice session
  • Badge awards — Topic Star, Focus Area Cleared, Week Warrior, Century Club, and Speed Demon earned automatically when milestones are reached
  • Notifications — focus-area alerts, badge earned, weekly digest, level-up suggestions

Requires your action:

  • Taking the assessment — prompted at the right time, but you decide when
  • Adding a subject to My Learning — tap the + button or follow the prompt after sign-in
  • Practicing focus-area topics — notifications link directly to the right topic, but you need to tap and practice
  • Dismissing prompts — assessment prompts respect your "not now" and back off

Games

How can I start a Game?

App drawer → 'Games' under PRACTICE → click a Quiz to start.

How can I join a Game someone else started?

Scan QR code, click on link, or go to 'Games' from app drawer and click "join". You can join at any time, even while the game is in progress — you'll start from the current question and missed questions don't count against you.

What do I see after a game ends?

After every game completion, a "Performance by Topic" card shows per-topic breakdown for that game. If you are eligible for an assessment, an assessment prompt card appears below the topic breakdown.

How does multiplayer scoring work?

Answers and explanations are only revealed after the question ends (timer expires, all players answer, or host advances). Only the host can advance to the next question.

What are lifelines?

Three power-ups available during gameplay on Practice quiz games, auto-allocated based on quiz length (1 per 5 questions):

  • 50/50 — Removes 2 incorrect options from an MCQ with exactly 4 choices.
  • Copy — Copy another player's submitted answer. Multiplayer only (hidden in solo games).
  • Time Warp — Adds extra time (half the original question time) for ALL players in the game.

Lifelines are always disabled on Mastery quizzes (≥10 questions, all at difficulty 3 or higher). The quiz's mastery flag overrides any host or per-game lifeline configuration.

What's a Mastery quiz?

A Mastery quiz is a verified skill check. It must meet three criteria:

  1. At least 10 questions
  2. Every question at difficulty 3 (Medium) or higher
  3. Lifelines disabled

Only Mastery quizzes contribute to your per-topic mastery accuracy and any per-course mastery threshold. Practice quizzes — shorter, easier, lifelines available, free retry on wrong answers — still build Practice Points.

The Quick Play sheet has a Mastery / Practice toggle so you can choose explicitly; any quiz that happens to satisfy all three conditions is auto-flagged as Mastery.

Are there limits on hosting games?

Starter-tier accounts can host up to 2 multiplayer games (lifetime). Solo Quick Play games are unlimited for every learner. Premium subscribers get unlimited multiplayer hosting.

My Learning

What is My Learning?

My Learning is your unified learning hub — it combines mastery tracking and AI coaching in one place. Every subject you practice appears here automatically, showing your skill level, Mastery Score (per topic + per subject), Practice Points, focus areas, earned badges, and personalized next steps.

Access it at: App drawer → 'My Learning' (under LEARNING).

How do I add a subject to My Learning?

After signing in, tap the + button on the My Learning screen and select your syllabus and subject. A subject card also appears automatically after your first practice session in any subject.

What does a subject card show?

Each subject card shows:

  • Skill level badge (Beginner → Developing → Proficient → Advanced → Expert)
  • Mastered topics count (Trophy badge) — topics where you've reached ≥80% accuracy on Mastery quizzes with at least 10 attempts
  • Total questions answered
  • Focus area count (topics with rolling Mastery accuracy under 50% and ≥10 attempts)
  • Quick action buttons: Details, Assess (when eligible)
What do the skill levels mean?

Skill level is derived from a combination of your assessed level (when you've taken one) and your per-topic Mastery accuracy:

Level — Indicator — What It Means

Beginner — No mastery activity yet — Just getting started

Developing — Some attempts, accuracy < 50% on average — Building foundations

Proficient — Average accuracy 50–80% across topics — Solid understanding

Advanced — Several topics mastered (≥80% with ≥10 attempts) — Strong skill

Expert — Assessment-validated mastery — Mastery achieved

Mastery Score vs Practice Points — what's the difference?

Two metrics with different jobs:

Mastery Score — Your best per-quiz score on each topic, across all completed Mastery quizzes. A bad day doesn't erase a good one — only your highest score on a topic counts. When that best score reaches ≥80% (and the quiz had at least 5 questions on the topic), it counts as Mastered and shows up in the Trophy badge ("3 mastered"). Designed to back certification: you can't peek at the answer, lifelines are off, the quiz is at least 10 questions of difficulty 3 or higher.

Practice Points — Effort counter that grows every time you get an answer right anywhere on the platform: practice page, practice games, quiz games (Practice or Mastery), flashcards. Never decreases. Star badge in the top bar.

Use Practice Points to celebrate effort; use Mastery Score to gauge real skill.

What is a Mastery Track?

A mastery track is automatically created for every subject you practice. It records your skill level, topic scores, gaps, and progress over time. You progress through 5 levels based on how well you do, not how much time you spend.

AI Coach

How do I talk to AI Coach?

Tap the chat icon in the top bar. To discuss a specific question, tap the chat icon on the question card.

What is AI Coach and what can it do?

An always-available AI tutor integrated into My Learning. It generates personalized quizzes based on your skill level, adjusts difficulty automatically, detects knowledge gaps, and focuses on weak areas. You can also ask it to search questions, start games, view progress, get flashcard stats, check subscription status, submit feedback, and explain any question.

Can I take an assessment to determine my level?

Yes. From the Learning Detail screen, tap 'Assess Level'. After answering 15+ questions in a subject, you'll be prompted to take an assessment.

How does focus area detection work?

A topic is flagged as a focus area when your rolling Mastery accuracy on it is below 50% AND you've answered at least 10 Mastery-quiz questions on it (practice-only activity doesn't count — only completed Mastery quizzes flag a focus area). You'll receive a notification with a direct link to practice that topic. When your accuracy crosses back above 50%, the focus area is resolved and you earn a Focus Area Cleared badge.

Will AI Coach notify me about my progress?

Yes. AI Coach sends proactive notifications for:

  • Focus areas detected (topics where your Mastery accuracy is under 50% with at least 10 Mastery-quiz attempts)
  • Assessment readiness (15+ questions in a subject, no assessment taken)
  • Level-up suggestions (rolling Mastery accuracy improving — ready for harder content)
  • Weekly progress digest — Every Sunday, a summary of subjects practiced, topics improved, and focus areas remaining

All notifications are limited to 3 per day with cooldown periods. Manage in Settings.

Courses

What are Courses?

Courses are structured learning groups. Premium subscribers can create courses around any syllabus, add co-coaches and learners, set up modules and a timeline, and track progress. Course creation and joining are Premium-only features.

Who can create a course?

Premium subscribers can create courses. Each course has a syllabus, an optional timeline of modules with classes/assignments/tests, and members.

Who can join a course?

Premium subscribers only. Join via a 6-character code shared by the course coach, or by being added directly by the coach. Starter-tier accounts see a Premium upgrade prompt when attempting to create or join a course.

Can I add co-coaches?

Yes. Go to your course detail → Coaches tab → select a user to add. Co-coaches must also be Premium subscribers. All coaches on a course have equal permissions.

How do I add learners to my course?

Course detail → Members tab → 'Add Members'. Enter email addresses (up to 50 at a time). Members must be Premium subscribers. Non-Premium users will be rejected with a message.

Can I use a course just for myself?

Yes. A course with zero members is naturally private to you as the creator. You can use it as a personal study plan with modules, a timeline, and videos — and invite others later if you want.

Flashcards

How do Flashcards work?

Leitner spaced repetition with 5 boxes. Correct answers move the card to the next box; incorrect answers send it back to Box 1. You spend more time on difficult cards.

How do I study with Flashcards?

Sidebar → 'Flashcards' → select syllabus/subject → optionally filter by topic → review due cards → mark correct/incorrect. Flashcard decks are available from existing content. New flashcard generation is managed by platform administrators.

Practice Points & Achievement Badges

How do I earn Practice Points?

Every correct answer across any source adds Practice Points to the matching topic:

  • Practice sessions & quiz games: `marks × difficulty` per correct answer (typically 1–8)
  • Practice-games (matching, sorting, etc.): +1 per correct
  • Flashcards: +1 per Leitner box advance

Practice Points are cumulative and never decrease. They appear on the Learning Detail page next to your Subject Mastery Score.

Are streaks displayed?

Your daily practice streak is tracked behind the scenes to award streak badges (Week Warrior at 7 days, etc.) but we no longer show a visible streak counter — we simplified the dashboard to focus on Mastery Score, Practice Points, and focus areas.

What badges can I earn?

Badges are awarded automatically:

  • Topic Star — Mastery Score 45+ on any topic (earns a "Topic Star" named after the topic)
  • Focus Area Cleared — resolve a focus area (Mastery Score crosses 30 on a previously-flagged topic)
  • Week Warrior / Fortnight Fighter / Monthly Master / Iron Will — 7 / 14 / 30 / 60-day practice streaks
  • Century Club — 100+ questions answered in a single subject
  • Speed Demon — 10 consecutive correct answers under 30 seconds each

Badges appear on the Learning Detail page with a pulse animation on newly earned ones.
